Another wonderful hike: the chilkoot trail

The chilkoot trail is the trail the goldrush stampeders used to get to Dawson, only to find out that all the gold was gone. In those days information was slow to reach the public. The hike was difficult due to the weather and to the gear they carried. Especially the top at 1100 meters was difficult. Nowadays the top signifies the border between the US and Canada. So it would seem that we are going to cross the canadian/us border quite a few times.

West Coast Trail (Canada)

While looking into interesting hikes in Canada I stumbled across a beautiful but difficult hike in Pacific Rim Reserve on Vancouver Island. The hike is 77 km long and takes approximately 5-8 days depending on weather and physical condition. The WCT is very popular which has resulted in a quota of 55 people per section of the trail. Therefore it is wiser to reserve a spot on the trail. However, we want to be free to change our plans as we travel. So I would assume that we'll just show up on the day and hope for two of the 10 free passes per day.

Lots of information can be found online, but the best starting point would be the homepage of the WCT
